Frequently Asked Questions | Praxis Marketing Consulting
What does Praxis Marketing Consulting do?

Praxis helps founders and CEOs get clear on what their marketing actually needs before they hire an agency or a marketing director. We come in before that decision, not instead of it, and deliver a concrete roadmap so your next marketing investment goes in the right direction.

How is Praxis different from a marketing agency?

A marketing agency executes your marketing. Praxis figures out what your marketing should be doing before anyone executes anything. We do not run ads, manage social media, or build campaigns. We audit where your business stands, identify what is working and what is missing, and deliver a clear roadmap so you can hire an agency or marketing director with confidence and hold them accountable.

What is the difference between a marketing consultant and a fractional CMO?

A fractional CMO takes on an ongoing leadership role in your marketing function — managing vendors, directing strategy, and often overseeing execution on a part-time basis. Praxis is typically engaged for a specific project or decision point. We come in, do the work, deliver the findings, and give you a roadmap. That roadmap may ultimately recommend a fractional CMO as the right next step. We are the step before that decision, not the execution of it.

What is the difference between a marketing consultant and a marketing agency?

A marketing consultant provides strategic advice and guidance. A marketing agency provides execution: running campaigns, managing channels, producing content. For most growing businesses, the right order is consultant first, agency second. A consultant helps you figure out what you need and what a good agency relationship looks like for your business. Then you hire the agency, equipped to brief them properly, set the right expectations, and measure their results.

Does Praxis do any marketing execution?

No. Praxis does not run campaigns, manage social media, build websites, or execute marketing on your behalf. That is by design. Our independence from execution is what makes our recommendations trustworthy. We have no financial incentive to recommend any particular agency, platform, or tactic. We tell you what your business needs based on the evidence, not on what we can sell you next.

Why should I get clarity before hiring an agency or marketing director?

Because most marketing engagements fail not because the agency was bad or the hire was wrong, but because the brief was empty. When you hire without clarity, you are asking someone else to define what success looks like for your business. That almost never ends well. Clarity gives you a standard to hire against, a baseline to measure performance against, and the confidence to make the decision with real information instead of a pitch deck and a gut feeling.

Who is Praxis Marketing Consulting for?

Praxis works best with founders and CEOs of growing businesses, typically between $500K and $10M in revenue, who are about to make a significant marketing decision. That might be hiring a marketing director, signing with an agency, rebuilding a marketing strategy, or figuring out why what they are currently doing is not working. If you are spending money on marketing without knowing what you are getting back, or about to spend money and not sure where to start, Praxis is built for that moment.

How do I know if I am ready for a Marketing Clarity Engagement?

You are probably ready if you are spending money on marketing without knowing what you are getting back, about to hire an agency or marketing director and not fully confident in the decision, frustrated that your current marketing is not producing the results you expected, or growing quickly and feeling like your marketing has not kept up. If any of those sound familiar, the Clarity Engagement is designed for exactly that moment.

Do I need to have my marketing figured out before reaching out?

No, and that is exactly the point. Most of the founders who work with Praxis come in without a clear picture of what they need. That confusion is the starting point, not a barrier. The intake form asks a few questions to understand where you are and what decision you are facing, and we take it from there.

Is Praxis right for a business that has never done any formal marketing?

Yes. In some ways, a business with no formal marketing history is in a better starting position than one that has been doing the wrong things for years. There are no bad habits to undo and no sunk cost to reckon with. The Praxis process works equally well whether you are starting from scratch or trying to make sense of something that has not been working.

What if I already have a marketing agency and it is not working?

This is one of the most common situations we work with. A Clarity Engagement in this context helps you understand whether the agency is the problem or whether the strategy the agency is executing was never right to begin with. Sometimes the answer is that the agency needs to be replaced. More often, the answer is that the brief was never clear enough and the relationship needs to be restructured. Either way, you leave knowing the real issue rather than guessing.

What is the Marketing Clarity Engagement?

The Marketing Clarity Engagement is our core service. It is a structured audit of your business's current marketing situation, including your channels, budget, digital presence, brand, competitive landscape, and team, followed by a written Marketing Clarity Report that gives you a prioritized roadmap and a clear primary recommendation. The engagement includes a two-hour discovery session and a follow-up call within 30 days of delivery.

What does Praxis deliver at the end of the engagement?

You receive a written Marketing Clarity Report covering findings across eight evaluation areas including your goals, current marketing efforts, ROI and budget, brand and positioning, digital presence, competitive landscape, team and vendors, and customer journey. The report includes a gap score for each area, a prioritized list of recommendations, a phased roadmap, and a primary recommendation on your next marketing hire or decision. It is designed to be shared with your leadership team and used as a working document.

How long does the process take?

The Spark typically delivers within 10 business days of your discovery session. The Clarity Engagement delivers within 10 business days. The Strategic Assessment delivers within 10 business days of the final stakeholder interview. The process is designed to move quickly because most founders are making a time-sensitive decision and we do not want to slow that down.

Can I share the Marketing Clarity Report with my leadership team or investors?

Yes, and many clients do. The report is formatted as a professional document specifically so it can be shared with leadership teams, boards, and key stakeholders. Some clients use it as the basis for a marketing budget conversation with their CFO or investors. Others use it to align their leadership team on priorities before making a hire. The report is yours to use however it is most useful to you.

What happens if I do not agree with the recommendations?

The follow-up call is designed for exactly this conversation. We present our findings and recommendations with full reasoning behind them, and we expect pushback. You know your business better than we do, and sometimes that context changes the recommendation. The goal is not to be right — it is to land on what is actually right for your business. If you disagree with something in the report, bring it to the follow-up call and we will work through it together.

Will Praxis help me find or hire a marketing agency after the engagement?

Yes, Agency Search Management is available as an add-on for $2,000. If your Clarity Report recommends bringing on an agency, we can manage the search on your behalf: developing a requirements brief, identifying and vetting candidates, reviewing proposals, checking references, and delivering a final recommendation. Praxis has no financial relationship with any agency, so our recommendation is based entirely on fit for your business.

Does Praxis work with businesses outside of Tampa Bay?

Yes. While Praxis is based in Tampa Bay and serves many local businesses, discovery sessions can be conducted by video and the engagement works equally well remotely. The Marketing Clarity Report is a written deliverable that does not require ongoing in-person access.

How much does Praxis Marketing Consulting cost?

Our core offering, the Clarity Engagement, is $2,500 as a fixed fee. For earlier-stage businesses, we offer The Spark at $1,200. For mid-market companies with more complex needs, The Strategic Assessment is $5,000. All engagements are fixed fee with a 50/50 payment structure: half on signing, half on delivery. We also offer advisory retainers starting at $1,200 per month for clients who want ongoing strategic support after completing a Clarity Engagement.

Why is the pricing fixed rather than hourly?

Because hourly pricing misaligns incentives. If we charge by the hour, we have no reason to be efficient. Fixed fee pricing means you know exactly what you are paying before you commit, and we have every reason to deliver the best possible work in the time available. The engagement is scoped clearly upfront, the deliverable is defined, and the price does not change.

Is there a way to work with Praxis on an ongoing basis?

Yes. After completing a Clarity Engagement, clients can move into an advisory retainer. The Sounding Board is $1,200 per month: two advisory calls per month, written feedback on marketing decisions, and email access for quick questions. The Strategic Advisor is $2,200 per month and includes weekly calls, unlimited asset reviews, same-day access for urgent matters, and monthly performance reviews. Both are month-to-month with 30 days notice to cancel.

What if I cannot afford the Clarity Engagement right now?

The Spark at $1,200 is designed for exactly this situation. It covers the same eight evaluation areas at a lighter depth, delivers the top three prioritized recommendations, and is structured for earlier-stage businesses where the marketing situation is less complex and the budget is tighter. It is a real engagement with a real deliverable — not a watered-down version of something better. Fill out the intake form and we will recommend the right starting point for where you are.

Do you offer refunds?

The deposit paid on signing is non-refundable once the discovery session has been scheduled. The final payment is due on delivery of the report. If you need to cancel before the discovery session takes place, reach out directly and we will work something out. We have no interest in keeping money for work that was never done.

Fill out the intake form at praxismarketingconsult.com/intake. It takes about ten minutes and covers the basics of your business, your current marketing situation, and the decision you are facing. What happens after I fill out the intake form?

We review your intake form and get back to you within 48 hours to schedule a first conversation. That initial call is not a sales pitch — it is a chance for us to understand your situation a little better and for you to ask any questions you have. From there, if it feels like the right fit, we send over a proposal and agreement and get started.

What if I am not sure which engagement is right for me?

Fill out the intake form and let us make that call together. Based on your revenue stage, the decision you are facing, and what you need from the engagement, we will recommend the right starting point. No pressure to commit to anything before that conversation happens.

How quickly can we get started?

Typically within one to two weeks of your intake form submission. We respond within 48 hours to schedule the initial conversation, and from there the discovery session is usually scheduled within the following week.
